A Guide to Samos

Samos, the birthplace of philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras, is lush and humid with mountains skirted by pine, sycamore and oak-forested hills. This beautiful island is situated just off the Turkish mainland, and you can easily reach Kusadasi in Turkey from this island, as there are 1-2 ships to and from the turkish port every day. Day trips are easy to arrange at the port.

PYTHAGORION - Samos Guide continued
Built on the ruins of the ancient city of Samos, it condenses more than twenty six centuries of Greek history. Such a rich cultural heritage was obviously a result of the necessity to be in harmony with the natural beauty of the surroundings of the town and the island as a whole.

CHORA
A bifurcation of the road coming from Pythagorio leads to Chora, the old capital of Samos. Built at the foot of Mount Ambelos, Chora spreads on the edge of a beautiful, fertile plain. A network of roads converging on the main square links Chora to the nearby villages.

PSILI AMMOS
A long, sandy beach of unique natural beauty, about 56 km south west of Samos.

TSAMADOU
This is a small beach with crystal blue waters, 11 km north-west of Samos.

LEMONAKIA
The famous beach Lemonakia is located in the north side of the village Kokkari.

The island can explored by car, motorbyke or moped. There are a lot of rent-a-car and rent-a-bike shops all around the town of Samos. Don't forget to bring your driver's licence as the samonians have very strict laws. Complete your experience by exploring this unique island.
